Custom Sculpture

Your Vision Forged In Steel

The Commission Process: Crafting Your Metal Masterpiece

Commissioning a custom metal sculpture is a collaborative journey between artist and collector — a fusion of your vision and my craftsmanship. Here’s how the process unfolds:

1. Initial Consultation

We begin with a conversation — in person, over the phone, or via email. You’ll share your ideas, inspiration, desired size, and setting for the piece. Whether you have a clear concept or just a feeling you want to capture, I’ll help shape your vision into a sculptural direction.

2. Design & Proposal

Next, I develop a concept drawing or digital sketch based on our discussion. This may include material options, estimated dimensions, and visual references. Once approved, I’ll provide a detailed proposal outlining scope, pricing, and timeline.

3. Material Selection & Planning

Together, we finalize the materials — from steel and copper to patinas and finishes — tailored to your space, preferences, and intended use (indoor, outdoor, or fire-integrated). Every detail is considered for both durability and aesthetic impact.

4. Fabrication Begins

This is where the magic happens. I begin forging, welding, and sculpting your piece by hand in my Missoula studio. This phase is highly detailed and may include TIG welding, cold forming, and precision shaping — depending on the complexity of the design.

5. Progress Updates

Throughout the process, I’ll share photos and updates so you can witness the transformation from raw material to refined art. This ensures transparency and offers a unique window into the craftsmanship behind your commission.

6. Final Approval & Delivery

Once the piece is complete, you’ll have the opportunity to review it. When approved, we arrange for delivery or installation. Each sculpture is professionally packaged and shipped with care, or personally delivered if local.

7. A Legacy in Metal

The finished work isn’t just a sculpture — it’s a personal heirloom, a statement piece, and a one-of-a-kind reflection of your story, space, and values.
